Once upon a time, a father sat down to discuss spending money with his son. The father gave the son two choices as to which kind of allowance he could receive. The father would happily give the boy $100 per month to budget as the boy saw fit. Or the father could give the boy a penny and each day of the month the father would double the amount of the previous day.

The boy was six years old and a firm believer in instant gratification. He took the $100. The much relieved father was then able to give his son two fabulous life lessons by first showing the lad the results of making a decision without first thinking out the consequences of that choice and second, he was able to give his son a wonderful lesson about the power of multiplicity. Now you are probably wondering how that little story applies to you. Well, for all those of us who don’t have a standing army at our whim or millions of campaign dollars to run for Commander in Chief, good news—we don’t need to conquer our whole world to totally change our whole world. How about the concept of only moving or enlisting the hearts and minds of just two people. And then those two people are responsible for finding two more people to enlist and then those two each find two more. Do you begin to reevaluate your own ability to change your destiny?

Or what about Dr.Seuss and the “ordinary” turtle Mac? Do we come away from that story with a totally different idea of the extreme value of who we are and where we are?

Is it true, like the reestablishment of Israel, that we can turn a desert into a thriving forest if all we need to do is each plant and nurture a single tree?

Perhaps the greatest discovery we make in life is when we figure out that truly THE LARGE IS THE SMALL.—THE SMALL IS THE LARGE.
