False Conclusions

Once upon a time, a government researcher was examining the jumping capacity of frogs. The researcher decided he wanted to see how the loss of each of a frog’s legs would effect jumping capacity.

The researcher commanded, “Jump frog!” and his four legged frog jumped fifteen feet.

The researcher then removed a leg and commanded the three legged frog to jump. “Jump frog, jump!” The three legged frog jumped twelve feet. The researcher wrote this in his notebook.

The scientist then removed another of the frog’s legs. “Jump now… Jump. Jump.” The two legged frog now jumped nine feet. The man diligently recorded this in his book too.

Now the researcher cut away another of the frog’s legs. “Jump frog!” The one legged frog jumped three and one half feet. The man smiled and made another note in his log.

And now the researcher removed the frog’s final leg and commanded the amphibian to jump. But, the frog remained motionless. “Jump Frog, Jump!!” But, still the frog remained in place. The man wrote in his reseach notes, “Frog with no legs has apparantly gone deaf.”
