LOCAL GOVERNMENT – GOVERNMENT POWERS REIGNITED

October 26th, 2009

The best community management comes when we keep our sense of community local. But, we have a federal and state government that have chronically exceeded their jurisdiction by seeking to micromanage local governance.

Liberty Fulcrum is putting together a series of campaigns to promote greater freedom from the federal/ state leviathon by leveraging the political resources available locally to citizens. Essentially we espouse that the best way to re-empower local government is to get local government, first and most importantly to recognize its own power and influence. Then, we try to provide local officials both the direction and support to use those powers.

Here is the first letter template provided by the Liberty Fulcrum Tool Box. (The member’s toolbox version provides more in depth instructions and a PDF version of the letter.) We will blog post samples occasionally for those not currently enrolled in the free, no obligation toolbox program.

Too many people are currently misusing their personal energy by each trying to fix problems independently. We would work better if we learned to work together more.

And now, here is a letter to be sent to each of your major political party town chairman that clarifies what most voters should expect from their local government.

*****************************************************************

(Date)
Dear Town Chairman,

Countrywide, citizens are voicing concern and outrage that our federal and often our
state legislators do not reflect the wishes and values of the citizen majority. There is an
ever growing recognition that our upper layers of government require some serious
housekeeping and structural repair. It is also evident that these legislators are neither
capable or willing to fix themselves. That is precisely why I am writing to you today.

As a political party’s town chairperson, you and your town committee are the
gatekeepers to which candidates run for state and federal posts.

It is tempting to believe that the phenomenon of citizens groups currently growing and
forming to protest the out of control spending, the constitutional usurpation, and the
threats to national sovereignty are the byproduct of a single political party or some
vague outcropping of racist rebuttal. It is not.

And it is tempting to believe that when these federal and state legislators manipulate
the laws and dollars coming from above, that somehow you should be their lackeys.
You are not.

It is tempting to believe that you should stand behind a person you don’t respect or
trust simply because they have previously won elections. This, you must not.

It is tempting to continue to believe that local citizens will always see local elections
as disconnected from what happens on other levels of governments. You will not.

I join with many of my fellow citizens in saying we expect the following:

We expect the pyramid of power to be flipped so that once again the bulk of
government in our lives is conducted on the local level where politicians are most
visible, most accountable, and most in touch with the immediate side effects of any
governmental action. We expect you to turn your focus to this end.

We expect you to take an active role in analyzing the need and then recultivating the
private and community organizations that served our community’s needs prior to state
and federal intrusion. This is in anticipation of the reduction and dismantling of the ongoing
federal and state budgets.

We expect you to actively work within the political party at removing corrupt politicians
from state and federal office. We expect you to either recall them or not run them again
for election.

Recently, many politicians have unsuccessfully attempted to diminish the morale and
the power of the people. There is a large difference between feeling impotent and being
impotent. In the end, the American people will prevail and it is hoped you will be among
those marching with us.

Thank you for all your many hours of hard work and your ongoing commitment to our
community. We will continue to be in touch.

Best regards,
(Your name and address)
